Principal’s Report
Dear Families
Students have had many opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities this term.
Year 7 and Year 9 Camps
A highlight for Year 7 and 9 students was an overnight camp. Year 7 students attended Camp Banksia and Year 9 students were accommodated at Paton Park. Students had the opportunity to flourish and extend themselves in a safe and supportive environment outside of the classroom.
yLead
DHS once again hosted yLead in Week 3. yLead is a hands-on leadership development experience that combines team building with essential skill development for leadership groups. Student Leaders from surrounding high schools participated in the event.
Aspiring Leaders
Last week our Aspiring Leaders in Years 7 and 8 were selected. They will be organising school-based activities for their year group and floor level throughout their tenure. Congratulations to our recipients.
Cross Country
Cross Country and Ryda events were held over the last few weeks. The Cross Country event was held over two days with a junior and senior event. After the Cross-Country run students participated in activities designed to build house spirit and competition across Years 7-12.
Congratulations to students that were selected to represent DHS at the Inter-high Cross Country Carnival. Our team did exceptionally well placing third overall in Division 1.
RYDA
RYDA is a highly engaging and memorable one-day workshop which front-loads students’ understanding of road safety. This was held at Camp Clayton and aimed at our Year 10 students.
Senior Secondary 2026 Course Offerings
We have begun planning 2026 course offerings for our senior secondary students. We are considering offering a certificate 2 in Civil Construction to complement the Certificate 2 in Infrastructure and Resources students are currently studying. A suite of TASC courses to supplement the Cert 2 offerings for current Year 11 students is being explored.
Enrichment
You may have heard students talking about Enrichment. During term 1 Staff and students trialled a new way of working incorporating a weekly targeted session enabling, consolidating and enriching students’ skills in English and Mathematics. Enrichment is continuing across classes this term and students are embracing this new way of working with enthusiasm. Growth is evident in teaching practice and student outcomes.
Last Friday was a student free day. Teachers worked with Reece High School to moderate samples of work to ensure consistency of assessment across schools.
In Week 9 on Wednesday 25 June, we will once again hold an informal Open Arvo from 3.30-5.30pm. All Devonport High School families are invited to view the school and classrooms to see students’ work and evidence of their learning. On Tuesday 1 July, the week following the open Arvo, from 3.00-4.30pm three-way conferencing will be held for families with bookings.
We are looking forward to seeing you in person at our Open Arvo!
